Why do parents of nursery school children love ABC music and me?

Here's what one mum thought about Kindermusik:

"Lily and Beatrice have loved attending the ABC Music and Me classes led by Rebecca Gill at Hammersmith Bute Gardens - so much that they come in especially on Friday mornings just for music class even though its not one of their regular nursery days!

My husband and I have seen improvements in the girls' language and communication that we think the classes have brought about. Their love of singing and dancing has been heightened by the benefits these classes have given to their imagination. They can explore each topic and repeat the themes from each week and now have started to sing some of the songs at home even before they get the CD! I appreciate having the weekly feedback and home materials, so that I can ask them about the activities and songs they've enjoyed and encourage them further at home".

A great addition to Leapfrog's pre-school programme - many thanks for introducing it.

(G Napoli, mother of children at Leapfrog nursery, Hammersmith)

The arts and music reach Alzheimer's sufferers

A recent article in The Times showed how Alzheimer's affects the area of the brain that deals with logic but the part of the brain that deals with emotions isn't damaged in the same way. So people who may seem detached in this world can be reached by art, litetature and music and have a better quality of life.

The power of singing

Read the fascinating article about how singing helps stroke patients with speaking difficulties communicate. It appears that singing uses a different part of the brain from the area involved in speech which may have become damaged. So whilst a stroke patient may not be able to form intelligible words talking he is able to sing these and be understood.

Welcome to Kathryn from South Africa to Kent!

Hi, I am Kathryn de Freitas and my passions are teaching, music and children! My first encounter with the Kindermusik programme was through a friend at the office. When the chance presented itself, my husband and I made the decision for me to opening my own studio and I qualified in November 2007 through Kindermusik South Africa. With a full battery of enthusiasm, I opened my doors in February 2008 - teaching from my lounge. At the end of February, the building of my studio on our premises began witha 4 week project eventually ending in July 2008 when I moved with very few students in to a rather bare studio. Growing weekly and more determined than even, I spent hours preparing lessons, props and so on. By April 2009 I received Maestro status shortly before leaving for the UK.
With our new home in Kent, I have every intention of growing a strong business over the coming months. I have seen plenty of special moments between parent and child and love to be part of the most important stories shared with each visit. But most of all I am blessed with the chance of sharing the gift of music to all who are in my classes.
